Six sailors, one in drag, pose for a group portrait on the deck of H.M.S. St. George. Photographic postcard, 191-.
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photographs of military, naval, and prisoner-of-war camp drag.
The group of six men are all wearing sailor uniforms except for the man in drag, who wears a bonnet and reveals his right leg to the viewer. A group of Royal Navy seamen on board H.M.S. St. George. One wears Edwardian ladies' clothes including a very large and wide-brimmed hat of the type fashionable ca. 1910. Possibly a 'crossing-the-line' ceremony?
