The man in drag is holding a parasol and wears elaborate costume, sitting next to the other man, who is dressed in smart summer attire. A couple in summer dress before an elaborate painted drop. The drag character is dressed in the short full skirts, showy jewellery and high plumed hat of the type popularised by the Cockney music hall star Marie Lloyd, in her 'coster girl' characters. Before her death in 1922, Miss Lloyd had become perhaps the best known and best loved star of the British music hall stage, and she was a frequent candidate for burlesque
