Digital Transgender Archive
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photograph album labelled ‘Drag’.
Arthur Stigant (1871-1959) in an amusing costume: a day dress and skirt appliqued with a design of 'Lucky' black cats; and a superb hat trimmed with extended ostrich feathers. Stigant was a successful and popular dame at provincial theatres in England from 1900. In 1914 he was contracted to appear in Australia, where he was based for the rest of his long career, dying there in 1959
