World War II period from the style of the hair, shoes and facial hair (thin pencilled moustaches) sported by the men, a style popularised by the British movie actor Ronald Colman, and German star of the Weimar cinema Adolph Wolbruck (who fled to Britain when the Nazis came to power and enjoyed a second career on the British screen as Anton Walbrook)
