In this oral history interview, he discusses his childhood in West Philadelphia and family relationships, his relocation to New York City and transition, his work in the New York Department of Sanitation, experiences as a transgender person in bureaucracies, and his thoughts on trans issues and cultural figures. Specifically, Coleman discusses his experiences as a gender non-conforming child, discovering the existence of trans men in a book about photographer Lorne Cameron, his memories of 9/11, experiences with Social Security and other bureaucratic systems, his transition, and issues faced by trans communities in New York City.
