Malcolm Scott in character as Boadicea. Photographic postcard, 191-.
Malcolm Scott as "Bodicea". H. L. & Co. L. Copyright
Part of James Gardiner Collection: photograph album labelled ‘Drag’.
The female impersonator Malcolm Scott (1872-1929), in drag wearing thick robes and holding a staff or spear. He is dressed as Boadicea in one of a series of burlesques based on famous female figures in British history. Scott's impersonations of famous female figures from history and popular culture were a big draw at major music halls in the days before World War I. His 'homely' appearance also made him a good pantomime Dame, but he would also burlesque some of the great beauties of the day
