Awen Briem is a white transgender person. At the time of this interview, he was working as a tattoo artist based out of Minneapolis. In this oral history, Briem speaks at length about growing up in Des Moines, gender policing, his romantic and familial relationships, and his encounters with healthcare. He also touches upon naming, religion, Caitlyn Jenner, the future political goals of trans communities, and organizations he has volunteered for.
